I've been feeling so free and happy to knit whatever I fancy since I finished Mom's sweater that I've started three new projects!! But first a little Halloween fun with the kiddies! This was taken at a great Halloween/ Birthday party yesterday. The party was all sorts of fun and cool for the kids! This is a picture of Aaron showing off his skills on the pinata. Our lovely hostess is in the background in the pink flowery shirt. Jen, the party was GREAT!

Two things I can say about being a mother, I've had children for only five and a half years now and in that time I've come to know lots of happy, lots of worry, lots of guilt and tons of pride.....
My beautiful (and very girly) daughter not only loves apples and jumped in to the bobbing game like she was born to it (consuming more than a half dozen apples in 2 hours) but she insisted on being the biggest and baddest Jedi out there. Thats right.....Darth Vader. She's seen the movies, knows her Mommy is into martial arts and loves a good warrior story, but I swear was NOT coerced into being Darth this year. She wanted it. When I said there was a slew of princess costumes she wanted Darth. When she saw all her friends dressed as princesses, she wanted Darth. When I asked her why Darth? She said, "Halloween is scary. I want a scary costume."
After my initial feelings of pride and joy, I wondered if I should be scared/worried that my 5 year old daughter chose ultimate-evil-bad-guy-of-the-universe. Hmmmmmmm. She was the coolest kid at the party and was a hit with all the adults who thought a girl Darth Vader was brilliant. Maya, I love you!

Kudos to Daddy who stayed up late into the night devising, designing and sewing (yes sewing) this costume for Aaron. We had a few technical difficulties getting it on, but altered it just in time for the party.

This is the beginning of the long awaited Girlfriend shrug. Yipee!!! I think there is one more inc then 15+ inches for the back to knit before I start dec for the other sleeve. Of course this seemed daunting and my k1, p1 rib on the cuff had me feeling a little unhappy so I decided to think about the knitted needs of my other rug rat this winter. Sweeeeaaaaaterrrrrr timmmmmmmmmme!!

This is the sweater I've chosen to make him! Perfect for the busy little guy on the skateboard. Pockets for cars and a zip up collar for cold sea breezes.

This is the yarn I am using: Paton's Classic Wool in Dark Grey. I tell you, this wool is great. I keep stopping after each row, feeling the fabric. I'm afraid I'm gonna make it pill if I keep it up so I'm going to suck it up and try and kick out this back piece in the next 3 days. The temperature seems to be pretty warm here still, but you never know when that cold spell is gonna snap! My little guy's got to be prepared!

Mom's Sweater!

Mom's Sweater!

Ta-Da!! Here is a picture of the final product. The bands were plain garter stitch with NO buttons (thank you Mom) so they were easy to whip out at the end! The only part I wasn't too happy with was where I had to cast on sts to knit the sleeves. This is at the underarm and the sts are off-looking but its not too obvious and hopefully no one will be seeing Mom's underarms...
I got a little scared after I had wet it to block because it seem so much wider than it did before it was wet. There was a brief moment of panic because this is my first cardigan and I spent soooooo much time on it....of course I didn't want to screw it up at the very end! But I took a deep breath, waited 2 days for the bugger to dry and tried it on. It fits soooo nice and the wool is even softer after the blocking. I have about 2 full skeins left. I'm sure Mom will be thrilled to see it finished! Love ya Mom!!

More Yarn

More Yarn

Yes, here it is. MORE YARN. Funny (and scary) how yarn brings so much joy into my life. The blue yarn will be for socks/handwarmers for gifts and the striped stuff is for Maya's Girlfriend Shrug. I REALLY want to start on all this but I am NOT going to let myself start anything until Mom's sweater is finished!!! Not even a gauge swatch will be knit until the brown sweater and I have parted ways. Must. Stay. Strong...

Here it is. These are the finished sweaters I have knit for the new additions to our family. I have to send them off to CA SOON because the baby will be here soon. I hope he likes his sweater and his sister will surely look cool in hers. Still working on Mom's sweater, but in the mean time I have had a bad case of the wandering eye. Okay, so I get the Elann newsletters and the Highland Wool......It's almost too much for one person to bear! The only thing I really worry about is the Briggs & Little being itchy against the skin. Sigh.....
