Granny Squares

So this is what I've been up to for the past week. I even gave myself a stiff shoulder working so hard on these! The yarn is acrylic baby yarn but is very soft and hey, machine washable. Now comes the attaching. I'm a little disappointed because I thought it would make a bigger blanket (yeah I realize that I could just make more squares).

This is one skein of Lee's blanket. I was so excited to finish this first skein (as its usually the hardest for me) and in the last row I realized I had messed up on the previous lace row. Sigh. I was short three stitches! It took me like three hours total to rip it back to the next correct row and fix it mainly because I am so afraid of ripping back I had to work up the courage. Everything turned out okay though and now I'm back on track with the pattern and have added on the second skein. Yeah! Here's to hoping for no more mistakes!

So, still no camera and no pictures. I'm dying to post some pictures but alas....our office equipment is piled in boxes in the garage. I am supposed to be emptying those boxes and organizing our bedroom. We are expecting my father in law this weekend and are going to let him have our bedroom for his stay here. This involoves me piling more boxes of crap from our bedroom into the garage to make our bedroom halfway decent for company. It will probably end up being me re-organizing the stash because that is what is taking up most of the dresser/closet space in our bedroom. He'll wake up to a mountain of yarn piled in every corner of the room. He probably won't realize what a treat this is.
Meanwhile...the only thing I've been working on is the granny square blanket. It occurs to me that crochet is a different type of activity now that my left shoulder has been sore. I have two rows of seven squares left. Then onto the finishing. I've never joined granny squares together so I hope its a lot like seaming knitted edges together! I'll be glad to put down the hook and pick up the needles. Knitting is much more relaxing for me. I really need to get something started on my shawl. I joined the Lace Shawl KAL and will probably be kicked out for lack of update/work! Ah! Good news is that someone else on the KAL is knitting the Kimono Shawl too! Yeah!! I hope they don't mind being pestered with questions/advice! I miss the handpainted yarn too! Ooooh, must. knit. shawl........
Hopefully more pictures and a post to the KAL site!

The past six days have been a whirlwind of activity. We are pulling up our old carpet (which was incidentally someone else's old carpet before we moved here) and replacing it with the interlocking laminate stuff. I cannot begin to tell you how freaking happy this makes me! For weeks before I was dreaming about ripping this smelly and stuffy old carpet out- literally dreaming and even living on the concrete if we had to! So in 3 days work we've refloored two rooms and a small hallway. The next three days comprised of me vainly trying to further progress on it by myself while simultaneously keep track of my kids. The thrilling part for them is that they will each get a new room. I've taken this opportunity to hijack the "computer room" from my husband and bestow it to the proper recipient of the space; my three year old Aaron. Today we bought discount quilts and a Hot Wheels pillow for his new room. Our next big challenge: finding a place for the computer (and stereo my husband insists we have hooked up). This weekend will be the end of the much hated living room carpet. I will NOT be sad to see it go. Actually, I think a celebratory dance will be in order....
So, anyway, as one can guess, with half of our material posessions stuffed here and there to make way for new floor, not much spinning has been happening. Knitting however is another story. It has kept me quietly sane throughout this home improvement project. I am through with the first skein of Baby Ull on Lee's baby blanket and I have started a second one for another new baby who has just arrived! This one is a granny square crochet concoction. I've got two more planned with a toddler sweater also. October is my deadline for everything but the granny square blanket. That I want done and sent out ASAP since the sweet little bundle is already here! Then, as soon as all that is done it will be time for Mom's sweater. Seriously, I think this is the last gift-knit item I will knit for a long time. All I have left is the cuff of one sleeve, the left sleeve, and the front borders. So close........
Some pictures as soon as we are all hooked up again!
